Nau-Ghar ("nine houses" in Hindi) is Sudoku reimagined for India. The classic 9×9 grid puzzle uses Hindi numerals — १ २ ३ ४ ५ ६ ७ ८ ९ — instead of Western digits. If you think Sudoku is easy, try it when your brain has to process unfamiliar symbols. It's a completely different experience that even Sudoku experts find challenging.

How to Play

The rules are identical to classic Sudoku: fill every row, column, and 3×3 box with the digits 1 through 9 (or rather, १ through ९), with no repeats. Tap a cell, then tap a Hindi numeral to place it. A toggle button lets you switch between Hindi and standard numerals anytime — useful when you're stuck and need to see the familiar numbers to think through a tricky spot.

Three difficulty levels keep things interesting: Easy gives you plenty of pre-filled cells to work with, Medium requires more deduction, and Hard will test even veteran Sudoku players. Each puzzle is randomly generated, so you'll never run out of fresh challenges.

Why Hindi Numerals?

Hindi numerals are part of India's rich mathematical heritage — after all, the concept of zero and the decimal system originated here. Playing Nau-Ghar reconnects you with this heritage while adding a delightful cognitive twist. Your brain is forced to process symbols it doesn't automatically recognize, which slows down your System 1 (fast, automatic) thinking and forces System 2 (slow, deliberate) thinking to take over. This is the mental equivalent of adding weights to your workout.

🧠 Why This Game Is Good for Your Brain

Sudoku is already one of the best-studied brain training exercises, proven to improve logical reasoning and working memory. Adding Hindi numerals introduces a "desirable difficulty" — your brain must simultaneously decode unfamiliar symbols AND solve the logical puzzle. This dual-processing demand strengthens cognitive flexibility and builds new neural connections between your language and mathematical reasoning centers.
